Medieval Castle

What are your three favourite things in your home and why are they special to you?

Yolande: The way the view is framed because I think we have a wonderful view and it’s nice to be able to have big windows to really appreciate it. The wall I think, but not just the outside decorative part of the wall, the inside, because although it’s very raw, it has, it actually has a lot of love in it, I know that sounds a bit corny but so many people have worked on the wall. Having the spaces that we have to be able to do a lot of hosting of people in the future and continuing building connections with the amazing people in the community that have come and helped us.

Neil: The way the light plays down through the skylights is just, it sort of takes your breath away sometimes, I really love how the effect has come up. The kitchen, I love to cook, so having a big kitchen that we can dabble around and play in is pretty exciting. I think the third thing which I’m looking forward to doing is finishing Ethan’s bedroom. I’m quite excited to give him the boy’s dream bedroom with his little work bench and I don’t know, he might want a soldering iron or something like that for his little engineering projects.

What's your top tip for people wanting to build their own Grand Design?

Neil: Let inspiration carry you, you know, dream big and take hold of inspiration.

Yolande: Having a supportive group of friends and family around you that keep encouraging you when times get really hard.

What's next?

Neil: Yeah, complete it and our outdoor entertaining spaces, get the vegetable garden up and running, build an outdoor fireplace!

Yolande: Ditto, same. And also probably putting some more fences in and having more defined paddocks and more animals but also having people come over and enjoy the place
